Description
The Blue Herring Mesdag's Fleet is a unique piece of wall décor by Royal Delft that brings together Dutch tradition and maritime history. The ceramic herring is crafted in classic Delft Blue and features a typically Dutch seascape design. The artwork depicts various ships sailing across the water, inspired by the maritime paintings of The Hague artist Hendrik Willem Mesdag. The fine linework and deep blue colour give the piece a distinctive look that fits seamlessly within the tradition of Delft pottery. Thanks to its elongated shape and maritime scene, the Blue Herring makes a striking statement on the wall (length approx. 24 cm).
• Crafted in authentic Delft Blue
• Original design by Royal Delft
• Includes wall mount and hanging instructions
The Blue Herring collection is a design series by Royal Delft that combines the iconic herring shape with a variety of Delft Blue decorations. For this series, the designers at Royal Delft collaborated with Dutch design studio duo Koens en Middelkoop. The collection plays with the recognisable shape of the fish, using it as a canvas for a range of patterns and styles.
Each herring in the series has its own unique decoration and look. The other variants are: Dragonfly Flower, Flower Scales, Peacock Scales, Art Deco and Flower Bed. Together they form a collection where tradition, design and humour come together. The herrings can be hung individually, but are often combined as a set on the wall for a playful and eye-catching effect.
