Alice in Wonderland christmas ornaments are hanging figures shaped after the characters from Lewis Carroll's story: Alice herself, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the White Rabbit and the Queen of Hearts. They are made from resin, plastic and glass, and come with a loop or hook so they are ready for the tree.
The collection runs to more than forty different ornaments across four brands, which is enough to dress a whole tree or to add something new each season. It sits within the wider range of Disney christmas ornaments, though it reads rather differently: where most Disney pieces are round and cheerful, Wonderland leans eccentric.
The characters from the story
Alice is the obvious starting point, recognisable by her blue dress and white pinafore. The Cheshire Cat turns up in several versions, most of them built around that grin. The Mad Hatter appears as everything from a small hanging figure to a detailed piece complete with teapot. The White Rabbit carries his pocket watch, the Queen of Hearts brings the drama, and the Caterpillar covers the stranger end of the story.
Teacups, teapots and toadstools
The smaller motifs from the tale are as useful as the characters themselves. Teacups and teapots nod to the famous tea party and sit well between the figures. Toadstools do similar work, suiting a Wonderland tree but also a plain woodland one. If that direction appeals, the mushroom christmas ornaments offer a wider choice.
The brands behind the collection
Four brands make up this collection, each with its own handwriting. Kurt S. Adler supplies the largest share, designed in New York and finished in resin with plenty of glitter. Gisela Graham works in a brighter, more playful register. The Disney label pieces stay closest to the animated film. Inge Glas Manufaktur produces the mouth blown glass versions in Germany, including a Cheshire Cat. A few nutcracker hangers are included here; the standing ones live with the Alice in Wonderland nutcrackers.
