Buying The Smurfs ornaments at The Christmas Shop
This is the first year that The Smurfs have their own corner at The Christmas Shop. What you find here is a starter range of officially licensed Christmas ornaments: hanging pieces shaped like Smurfette, Papa Smurf, a Smurf with a Christmas hat, or one of their iconic mushroom houses. All produced under licence from IMPS in Brussels. We are starting small, with a carefully chosen selection, and will expand over the coming seasons. Looking for something specific that is not yet listed? Get in touch and we will see if we can source it for next year.
Who are The Smurfs?
The Smurfs are the small blue creatures with white hats who live in mushroom houses in a forest village. They were created in 1958 by the Belgian comic artist Peyo, pen name of Pierre Culliford, and first appeared as side characters in an episode of the comic series Johan and Peewit in the magazine Spirou. Each Smurf has a distinct character and role: Papa Smurf leads the village, Brainy thinks he knows best, Smurfette is the only female of the group, and Gargamel the wizard spends his days trying to catch them all.
A Belgian heritage with global reach
What began as side characters in a Belgian comic grew into a global brand. In 1981 the Hanna-Barbera animated series brought The Smurfs to television screens in dozens of countries. A Hollywood live action film followed in 2011, and a fresh animated version arrived in 2025. The rights still sit with IMPS in Brussels, the company that keeps every official Smurf recognisable across products. For anyone who grew up watching the cartoon or reading the comic, these characters span three or four generations effortlessly.
The Smurfs in your Christmas tree
Smurfs ornaments work best as colourful accents between more traditional decorations. The bright blue and white stands out beautifully among red or gold Christmas baubles and gives the tree an instantly personal touch. Hang two or three scattered through the branches, or build a dedicated Smurfs section if you are a collector. They also make a thoughtful gift: for a parent who grew up with the cartoon, for a grandparent who bought every issue of Spirou, or for a child meeting The Smurfs for the first time through the new film.
