Buying Royal Delft at The Christmas Shop
Royal Delft Christmas decorations pair real craftsmanship with the magic of the season. At The Christmas Shop you'll find the brand's hand-painted baubles, the annual Christmas bell and the slender icicles, all in that recognisable blue on white. Every bauble comes with a certificate of authenticity and is painted in Delft, so you're hanging a genuine piece of craft in your tree rather than a mass-produced one. If you'd like to look beyond this single maker, you'll also find Delft Blue Christmas baubles by other makers here. The collection is on display in our shop in Delft too.
Royal Delft is the only surviving Delft Blue factory from the 17th century, also known as De Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles. Its blue-on-white earthenware has been hand-painted in Delft for centuries, which makes every bauble a unique and unmistakably Dutch little work of art.
Miffy by Royal Delft
Miffy gets a stylish makeover in blue and white at Royal Delft. Dick Bruna's world-famous bunny skates across a bauble, rides a sleigh, floats among the stars or stands on skis, each one painted by hand. These Royal Delft Miffy ornaments make a lovely gift, both for the devoted collector and for anyone who enjoys a touch of nostalgia. You'll find more Miffy in Delft Blue, from other makers as well, on the dedicated Miffy page.
Baubles with a Delft story
Many Royal Delft baubles carry a story. One shows Vermeer's View of Delft or Girl with a Pearl Earring, another the Westertoren in Amsterdam or the rooftops of Delft. The characteristic onion shape nods to old tableware, while the Royal Blue Tattoo by Henk Schiffmacher brings tattoo art and Delft Blue together on a single ball. Alongside these, fans of the classic blue will also find plenty of Delft Blue Christmas ornaments in all sorts of shapes.
The annual Christmas bell and the icicle
The Delft Blue Christmas bell is perhaps Royal Delft's best-known classic. A new bell appears each season with its own scene, hand-painted and marked with the year, so collectors can add to their set year after year. Royal Delft also makes graceful icicle ornaments, long shapes that dangle between the branches like real icicles. Build your own blue story over the years this way.
Hand-painted in Delft
Hand-painted at Royal Delft really does mean by hand. A master painter applies the design with a fine brush and cobalt onto the white biscuit, and the blue only appears during firing through a chemical reaction. No two baubles end up exactly alike. That's where Royal Delft differs from much other Delft Blue, such as the more affordable Delft Blue by Heinen: here you get a hand-painted ornament with a certificate of authenticity, made in the only surviving Delft factory from the 17th century.
