Proud Mary is a modern tribute to Mary II, the wife of stadtholder William III, who was known during the Dutch Golden Age as an avid collector of Delft Blue. That historical inspiration sparked the idea of giving the iconic Delft Blue of Royal Delft a contemporary twist. The figurine consists of four interchangeable parts: the head, the collar, the bodice and the skirt. Proud Mary was designed by Koens & Middelkoop, and the Delft Blue design was then elaborated by hand by the designers and master painters of Royal Delft.
