Proud Mary is a modern tribute to Mary II, the wife of stadtholder William III, who was known during the Golden Age as a collector of Delft Blue. This historical inspiration sparked the idea of giving the iconic Delft Blue of Royal Delft a contemporary twist. The figurine consists of four interchangeable parts: the head, the collar, the bodice and the skirt. Proud Mary was designed by Koens & Middelkoop, and the Delft Blue artwork was subsequently hand-finished by the designers and master painters of Royal Delft.
