Buying Hollywood nutcrackers at The Christmas Shop
Hollywood nutcrackers are wooden nutcrackers from the Hollywood™ collection, designed by Holly Adler for Kurt S. Adler. They are noticeably more elaborate than the brand's standard range, and almost every figure refers to a familiar story or film, from Alice in Wonderland to The Wizard of Oz.
We stock well over a hundred different Hollywood nutcrackers, from small hanging ornaments for the tree to standing figures approaching half a metre tall. If you would rather see the wider range first, browse all nutcrackers or the full line of Kurt S. Adler nutcrackers.
Designed by Holly Adler
Holly Adler designs the Hollywood collection exclusively for Kurt S. Adler, the New York Christmas brand known for its handmade nutcrackers. Her signature is in the detail, and above all in the hat: never just a hat, but a cake, a fireplace, or a Christmas tree crawling with mice. Each figure is carved from wood, hand-painted, and finished with glitter, beads and miniature props. That makes them collectables as much as decorations.
The themes in the Hollywood collection
The collection is built around stories you will almost certainly recognise.
- Alice in Wonderland, with the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit. The full set sits together under Alice in Wonderland nutcrackers.
- The Wizard of Oz, with Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow on his brick base.
- The Night Before Christmas, where the mice turn up everywhere they should not be.
- Sweets and gingerbread, with bakers carrying cakes, cupcakes and stacks of candy canes.
- Scrooge and the classic Christmas tales, if you fancy something a little less sugary.
From small hanging ornaments to large standing figures
Size usually decides where a nutcracker works best. The hanging versions are only a few centimetres tall, weigh next to nothing, and look their best in groups of three or four on the tree. The large standing figures need room instead: a mantelpiece, a deep windowsill, or the bottom of the stairs. One nutcracker in the collection even hides a working music box in its hat, playing "The Nutcracker Suite" when you turn it. You can see the whole range in our shop in Delft.
