Alice in Wonderland nutcrackers at The Christmas Shop
An Alice in Wonderland nutcracker is a hand-painted wooden figure inspired by Lewis Carroll's tale, with the traditional moveable jaw and crafted in the unmistakable Kurt S. Adler style. Our collection covers seventeen characters: from Alice carrying a tray of teacups to the Cheshire Cat perched on a cluster of mushrooms, in sizes from about thirty centimetres up to well over half a metre.
Every nutcracker in this collection comes from Kurt S. Adler, the New York family company that has been shaping American Christmas decor for decades. Prices run from around a hundred and twenty euros for the standard characters to over two hundred and seventy for the larger Hollywood Collection pieces. In our Delft shop the full line-up is on display, so you can see each character up close before deciding which ones belong on your mantelpiece.
Alice, the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat and Queen of Hearts
The full cast is here. Alice wears her blue dress and carries a tray of teacups, with the Cheshire Cat painted on her hat. The Mad Hatter sports an oversized hat covered in price tags and holds a steaming teapot. The grinning Cheshire Cat sits on a base of red and white mushrooms, wearing his own top hat and pocket watch. The Queen of Hearts stands in red and black with a sceptre in hand, the White Rabbit clutches his silver pocket watch, and the egg-shaped Humpty Dumpty rounds out the line-up. Each piece is finished with glitter, fabric and hand-carved detail; no two are exactly alike.
The Hollywood Collection designed by Holly Adler
The largest and most elaborate pieces belong to the Hollywood Collection, a series designed by Holly Adler, Kurt Adler's granddaughter. This is where you'll find Alice with a flamingo under her arm balanced on a mound of mushrooms, the Caterpillar seated on a cluster of vividly coloured mushrooms, and a more theatrical version of the Queen of Hearts. These nutcrackers comfortably reach half a metre, are finished by hand with fabric, glitter and metalwork, and are made to anchor a mantelpiece rather than disappear into a tree.
Pair with other Alice in Wonderland decorations
To carry the theme through the whole room, hang Alice in Wonderland baubles in the tree alongside ornaments of the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit and Alice herself, then scatter a few mushroom ornaments across the dinner table for a proper Mad Hatter's Tea Party. For those who prefer to keep things tree-bound, our nutcracker ornaments include smaller versions of around ten centimetres made to hang from a branch.
