Buying Department 56 at The Christmas Shop
Department 56 is an American brand known for its lit, collectible Christmas village houses. The name comes from an old department number: at a florist in Minneapolis, the gift-import division was once labelled number 56. Every house is made of finely detailed resin and carries its own name on the base.
At The Christmas Shop you can shop Department 56 online, or see the houses in person at our Christmas shop in Delft. We stock two officially licensed series: the Disney Village and the Harry Potter Village. Not sure which piece fits your existing display? We are happy to think along with you.
The Disney Village by Department 56
The Disney Village is all about Mickey, Minnie and their friends, dressed up for Christmas. Little shops and houses come finished with snow on the roofs, trees in the gardens and the unmistakable Disney details you will not find anywhere else. Light them in the evening and the warm magic of Disney fills your living room. A fan already? Have a look at our wider Disney Christmas collection too.
The Harry Potter Village by Department 56
For anyone who dreams of a village straight from the wizarding world, the Harry Potter Village houses are the jewel of the collection. Iconic places from the books and films become lit buildings: Hogwarts, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Station. Each piece is richly detailed and officially licensed, crafted to the film studio's specifications. Pair them with our Harry Potter Christmas collection and your theme runs from the tree to the sideboard.
Why collectors choose Department 56
Department 56 is a collector's brand in the purest sense. You do not buy one house and stop, you build up your own village year after year. Every building has its own name and story, and many families pass their collection down to the next generation. The finely worked resin and the warm glow make each house a little more than decoration: a piece of Christmas tradition that returns each year.
