Dog Christmas ornaments at The Christmas Shop
Dogs are by some margin the most popular corner of the animal Christmas ornaments collection. Over a hundred models hang ready: mouth-blown glass by Inge Glas and Kurt S. Adler, felt dachshunds by Decoris, and porcelain Delft Blue dogs by Heinen. Almost every breed has at least one version, and new breeds are added each year. Dog lovers tend to find more than they came for.
Your breed in the tree
Most people come looking for their own breed. The collection includes labradors (blond, brown and black), labradoodles, dachshunds in different colour markings, beagles, pugs, Boston terriers, Yorkshire terriers, rottweilers, golden retrievers, corgis, Bernese mountain dogs, shiba inus and bichon frises. Kurt S. Adler built an entire Noble Gems collection around breeds, each one with a small reindeer antler or a red-and-white bandana. Missing a breed? Just ask, sometimes more is on the shelves than online.
Mouth-blown glass dogs
The finest dog ornaments are mouth-blown glass. Kurt S. Adler designs the Noble Gems collection in New York, where each model is hand-blown. Inge Glas Manufaktor does the same in the Bavarian region, with striking detail in coat and posture. A glass Boston terrier, a Bernese mountain dog, a shiba inu puppy: each one handmade, with no two pieces exactly alike.
Felt, porcelain and resin dogs
Not every dog is breakable. Decoris makes felt dachshunds with Santa hats in grey, brown and black, perfect when small hands or pets are nearby. Goodwill builds a polyester pug with a bendable antler so you can shape it. Heinen Delft Blue makes a porcelain balloon dog with the classic blue Delft painting on the belly. Resin adds extra detail to paws and antlers in many of the glass models.
A dog ornament as a gift
A dog Christmas ornament makes a surprisingly personal gift. For a friend with a new puppy, for someone who has just said goodbye to their loyal companion, or for someone who wants to see that same labrador in the tree year after year. The same goes for cat lovers, who you can surprise via the cat ornaments. A glass ornament lasts for decades, long after the dog itself has gone.
