Christmas ornaments

A Christmas ornament is a figure for your tree, while a bauble is the round base shape. Where baubles fill out the tree, ornaments make it stand out: a mushroom, an animal, a train or a ballerina. At The Christmas Shop you can choose from thousands of glass Christmas ornaments in all sorts of shapes, ideal for adding accents between your baubles.

The vast majority of our ornaments are mouth-blown and made in Europe. Those by Inge Glas Manufaktor have been mouth-blown and hand-painted in Germany for generations, which makes every piece unique. The Dutch maker Vondels also works in mouth-blown glass, from Miffy to a Dutch frikandel. No two ornaments are ever quite the same.

Hang glass ornaments with a sturdy hook on a branch that can take the weight, ideally a little deeper in the tree where they're protected. After Christmas, store them individually in soft paper or a compartment box so they don't knock together. Looked after well, they'll last for many Christmases, as good glass doesn't wear out.

Christmas ornaments make a lovely, personal gift, precisely because they can capture someone's taste or a memory. An ornament for a baby's first Christmas, an animal that suits someone, or a playful nod like a frikandel: it stays in the tree for years. Many people add one every year, like a little Christmas diary.
